Amaya had moved the den to the swamps, having felt it was a safer place and also warmer as the pups were whelped early winter. In fact the sky had just began to fill with flurries of white powder. The pup's eyes had opened at the mark of two weeks, and a week had passed since, now they were eating a mixture of prey and milk. The could crawl and walk around the den, which was set under a large rock structure with ferns covering the entrance. It was large, and the pups, and Amaya, enjoyed the space it gave.
Skye and Jenova were the pup's names, with Skye being larger and blue merle, and Jenova small, black and tan. Jenova's eyes were a deep, chocolatly brown, while Skye had a brown right and left blue. Skye's left eye was a little hazy, worrying Amaya, but only slightly.
Quietly, Jenova got up, padding around the den. Sighing of boredom, she glanced at her mother, who's eyes were closed and breathing heavy, but balanced breaths. Jenova's eyes darted to her sister, and she tilted her head. Skye lay sleepily next to Amaya. The small black and tan pup stumbled over to her sister, leaping on top of her. She gave a small yip of delight, tumbling around the dusty floor of the den.

s k y e I yawned, it had been a week since my eyes had opened. To be truthful, I imagined it differently. I could only see from one eye. It scared me at first, I should've been able to see from both. That took away depth perception, but I'd live with it none the less.
I looked at life as if the glass was half full. At least I was alive, beautiful parents, and I had a friend; my sister. Life was good, despite my eye problem.
I yipped in surprise as my smaller sister tackled me. I laughed slightly, then ran around my mother, who had her eyes closed. My father was just outside of the den, relaxing in the snow. I hid behind mom, and closed my eyes. I wasn't afraid, I was just hiding.

Jenova "Can't hide!" I squealed playfully, my hackles raising. Backing up a few steps, I braced myself for the leap over mom. Getting a running start, I bounded into the air, but fell short tumbling over mother onto Skye. "Gotcha!" I snarled playfully. Of course this woke mother, she just shook her head and left the den. Not like I cared where she went, she was no fun. Neither was dad. In fact, they were plain boring. I leaped on my sister again.
"Fun?" I yipped in that sweet puppy voice. I sat with Skye, panting, thinking, about things I didn't quite understand. "Skye. I want to leave. Mom is boring, all dad does is watch the den..." I sighed, rolling to the floor. "I want to see life outside the den."

I grunted as my sister landed on me. I laughed slightly, then the smile on my maw left. Leave.. I smirked. "You couldn't escape, dad would never let it happen." It did sound fun though, hmm. I laid down, and stared at mom's fresh tracks from when she had left the den. Pups really did drain you. I sighed, and rested my head on my paws. "It isn't going to happen, Jenova."

Jenova "Come on, Skye." I sighed. "All we'd have to do was just wait until they were both asleep. I hear them both sleeping sometimes, even though dad usually stays outside. But we can sneek out, we can. Just for a bit." I said, my voice not going over a whisper. Who knew if they were listening.

I sighed. Did my sister not realize just how dangerous this was? Mom and Dad would be in a frantic. With my luck, a cougar would probably eat us. "I don't think so." I said after a long moment. A small grin curled on my lips.
"You can go be a dare devil by yourself." I said, hoping that if she did, she'd keep out of trouble.

"Well, then, I will!" Though frustrated, I kept my tone hushed, I could hear my parents talking outside the den. ''But not now. They're awake." I smirked, then walked over to a corner of the den where I curled up to rest. "You'll regret it, you know, being such a worrier. You'll never do anything fun." I mumbled to my sister, right before dozing off.

There may be many names for a pup like myself, but I can assure that worrier is not one of them. A low growl rippled from my chest, but instead of sulking from my sister's words, like any other puppy would have done, proving her wrong seemed best. I waited for a long time, just waiting to be positive my sister was fast asleep. The silent chatter of my parents slowly died after one or the other padded off. My mind was swrling, an adventure. I inched towards the door of the den, every sound made me stop, but soon enough I was at the enterence. Gotham, my father, was sleeping outside of the den, I wasn't sure where mom was. I moved past him and into the tall grass of the swamps.
All i could think was proving Jenova wrong. I had pushed aside all thoughts of danger, I was being more foolish as I padded into the woodland by the swamp.
